HE LOST HIS GIRL AND WE LOST HIM

WriterAuthor's note:This story is purely based on fiction.

It was in the year of 2002.  I was just seven year old. That time I was escorted by my affectionate brother Thinley Tenzin(TT) to reach me to school and even to my class. Many of his mates used to tell us that we are appearing differently though we resides in same bamboo hut. Most probably he use to study for a whole night burning midnight oil, sometime our mother use to pick our small kerosene lamp from our blankets and  says, “sati luk den chumala’’(kerosene has been poured out).

Early in the morning they(brother and mother) alternatively use to dress me up and sometime he use to help me reaching school and home by carrying me on his back. He rendered all his time for me(younger and only brother) & mother.

One thing I am forgetting to mention about him, he is also a excellent academic performer and we are still nurturing his greatest achievements like certificates, medals and trophies in various fields.

When I was in class II, I was asked to fill in the bio-data form and I seek help from my big brother Thinley Tenzin and coincidentally he was also asked to do so like me. So, he filled in his form first, that very moment I was just looking into him, how he is filling in. Secondly, he started filling my bio-data form and to my surprise I found we were from different father. He wrote Karma Wangchuk and Gyeltshen respectively. Instantly I enquired him about writing of different father’s name. That time he gave me a simple smile and said that I have just written to check how far you are intelligent enough to know, but any how I was told not to erase that mentioned name.

Immediately I went to our mother and asked her about writing of different names of our father by him. Our mother seat near our oven and said, “ Brother Thinley’s father died because of fatal disease and your father Gyeltshen left us when you were in my womb. He didn’t turn up even on my painful delivery.’’ That word invaded my inner core of heart and it was such a great grief for me and my family too.

Even then luckily, I got my much more strengthened brother who is there for me in everywhere and at anytime. Though we are from different father we imbibed same breast milk and grown up from single mother’s lap. His father’s clan too treated us equally. I do have no wishes to see my unseen father later, since I was happy being with my mother and my brother Thinley.

In 2008, I was in class VI and my brother was in class X. That time he was too busy preparing for Board Examination and he hardly gets time to take meals.

Among many of his friends one girl called Mendrell, she used to treat me well, since she knew that I am brother of Acho Thinley. Sometime we use to have our pack lunch together & I have also seen them exchanging their books and discussing. After reaching home and during our recreational time I teased him & Mendrell and he just says, “Yek pay na nan gi… hang ra say du”(you are found of that and knows all).

I am not remembering the exact date but it was on July month after returning from our summer vacation. Mendrell gave me a letter which was well pasted with red cello tap and told me to hand it over to my brother silently. I understood it could be a regard to my brother, I nodded and gave it to my brother.

Next day, I was given a task same like her by my bother and did all as per their voice. After a few days I noticed they are in relation and I became the active messenger between them. The worse thing I had seen in their relation is not like nowadays’ girlfriends and boyfriends. They never use to talk openly; they kept their relation secretly from all except me. They were too scared of getting noticed by teachers and time and again they use to remind me not to tell to anybody.(how complicated their relation is. Hehe)

After six months they got transferred from middle school and they took science stream when I was in secondary level. We met during our cluster level games and sport competition , my brother and Mendrell turned up to cheer up in behalf of our school, since it was their previous school and not only that his brother is one of  the participants wearing jersey no:10. That time I have seen little changes in their relation that they were too close and they even removed some parts of timid sense. Though we players were allocated in different bedroom, my brother came and let me to sleep on his bed together like what we use to sleep in our home. Seeing the face of eagerly await one and enjoying the same environment, it has given me multiple sense of glee. We did great farewell in one of the restaurants and I returned to my school.

After two years, 2010; they graduated from high school. We experienced the first B-mobile network in our community and sometime he use to share his left earphone with me when he make a call to her. They talks for a long hours and in my entire scene of them I haven’t seen them having misunderstanding and other silly chaos.

February 10, 2011;
Early in the morning we received Mendrell’s call and she told us that she is moving to Thimphu to do some temporary job within approx. six months with her sister who is working under the department of Tourism.

About 12:30 pm, we heard a news of accident occurred on the way to Samdrup Jongkhar & Trashigang. After a few minutes his friend Wangchuk called him in deeper voice saying Mendrell was the victim of that accident. Suddenly he felt down and be became unconsciousness and even he was diagnosed as a critical heart disease patient.  I can’t believe that easily, and I thought it was my sour nightmare, but isn’t nightmare. I and my venerable mother did our best to regain his consciousness but we failed. In my passage of flamboyant life I haven’t encountered with such saddening and scandalous episodes rather than in books and movies……………… HE LOST HIS GIRL AND WE LOST HIM…….
